Solution Zero Plastic Campaign
Plastic pollution is a global phenomenon that needs global action to figure out real change. Not only state actors but also, non-state actors: NGOs and multinational corporations help are essential to resolve the current problem. By cooperating, all actors endeavor to solve problems with a more resource-efficient and lifecycle approach to land and sea plastics stewardship. Regarding the current plastic pollution, we suggest the “Zero Plastic Campaign” as a solution. The Zero Plastic Campaign is a global initiative aimed at reducing the consumption of single-use plastics and promoting the adoption of sustainable alternatives. It focuses on raising awareness about the environmental impact of plastic pollution, advocating for policies to regulate plastic use, promoting recycling efforts, and encouraging individuals and businesses to adopt plastic-free practices. On this page, we are going to introduce several case studies in which different actors.

Government: Canada
As G7 president, Canada promoted the Ocean Plastic Charter to make the momentum for EU and other G7 countries engage in plastic pollution. Moreover, the Canadian government endeavors to solve the problem of plastic pollution through establishing the agenda called Canada's Zero Plastic Waste Agenda. Their actions are as follows: Developing targets,standards and regulation for eliminating plastic pollution, Developing a strategy to encourage the remanufacturing of products and other value retention processes with the rise of socio-economic and environmental study. Increasing investment on plastics pollution initiative and plastics science.

Intergovernmental Organization: United Nations
The United Nations fights for plastic pollution by monitoring the progress of the SDGs goal. Especially, UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs provides specific data statistics regarding each SDG indicator. Through monitoring the progress, they provide an SDG Progress Report which initiates other actors to easily find the way.

Multinational Corporations: Starbucks
Starbuks’s “Better Together” Strategy, aiming for the elimination of plastic in all their stores nationwide by 2025. This strategy is to push toward the zero plastic movement by making customers use reusable cups. Starbucks incentivizes customers to use reusable cups by providing more benefits to make more customers willing to join the campaign. According to the Starbucks PR department, “the number of individual multi-use cups used in the past three years, from 2019 to the end of October 2021, has been 52.7 million.”
